A major upside to these cooler months is the abundance of juicy apples available. We’ve had heaps in our veggie box the last couple of weeks and as much as I love to crunch on them raw, they are also delicious stewed in a crumble.
Health benefits:
- There are specific gut health benefits to stewing apples, as cooking them releases a type of fibre called pectin from their skins, which provides food for your friendly gut bugs.
- Looking after your gut bugs helps support your immune health and can reduce digestive symptoms such as bloating and gas.
- Having an abundance of prebiotic fibres such as pectin may also help maintain the health of your gut lining, which reduces inflammation and supports a healthy mood.
- Look for organic apples so you can keep the skin on and enjoy all the benefits of pectin!
